The Column Job
Building with the missing column
Concrete base where the old column once stood
No 1 cedar
Sample cuts (in redwood)
Piece of what I thought was a piece of the original column
Custom made knives that fit sample
Eventually had all 2 x 4s fluted (grooved)
Custom made grid to hold rings
Screwing the fluted boards to rings and to each other
Rolled column over onto dollies to do other side
Closing it up, hoping for good fit of last boards
Column done
Turning top of column
Had to be expertly centered
Turned, ready to be tested on column
Real good fit
Carved "terminating" flutes
